Algarve Beaches
Around Lagos and further to the west there are lots of small bay-type beaches. Praia da Luz being 5 mins away, then onto Burgau, Ingrina, Salema .... but there are many more. Of course Cabo de Sao Vicente is as must. This is the furthest south western point of Europe. When we are looking out over the ocean facing west standing on the high, magnificent fjord-like rocks we see in our imagination Columbus' fleet passing by in 1492 sailing into a still unknown world. The crew trembling for fear that they might never come back!
Lagos
Has 3 beautiful beaches: Meia Praia, Porto de Mos and Dona Ana. All beaches are easily accessible by car.Praia da Luz
The once upon a time fishing village is now devoted to the quieter side of the tourist trade, although very much a family holiday resort in July and August. A busy small beach with sun loungers and parasols.
Salema
A very relaxed fishing village with many of the traditional aspects still present. The secluded and wide beach stretches for some 600 meters and also boasts a selection of cafes and restaurants, a convenience store and a handful of small shops within walking distance.Burgau
An unsophisticated village with a lot of character in its multicoloured houses and narrow cobbled streets. A steep walk down to the beach with a fabulous beach bar and restaurant to watch the sun go down.Sagres to Aljezur
Wonderful bathing beaches such as Carrapateira and Cordama (and other surfing beaches) are only a 30 minute drive away along the spectacular west coast. Quiet beaches, fantastic high cliffs, wonderful fishing. West coast beaches are enjoyed by many surfing enthusiasts.
